MiMí L. Goode

From her studio in Healdsburg, California, Cement Girl creates contemporary garden furniture, ornaments and water elements using found pieces of old iron and cast cement. For the past 15 years MiMí has focused her art on cast stone, creating one-of-a-kind piece of art. A regular visitor to what she describes the “lost world of iron” where antiques sit in barns, basements, and junkyards, she selects old, abandoned pieces to integrate into her cast stone work. The result is both strong and elegant.

Cement Girl has developed her own mixes and treatments. Her technical abilities are legendary in the cast stone industry, and her original combinations of old iron and cement display her uncommon skill and imagination.

Inspiration

MiMí Goode has lived most of her life in Healdsburg’s Alexander Valley where her family farms grapes. In the 1980’s she worked in Los Angeles, designing movie sets and launching her 11-year career in construction. The company she founded specialized in remodeling Craftsman style residences. MiMi' points out that remodeling is closely related to her passion for recycling and renewal. “Even my garden is recycled - my beautiful roses, calla lilies and citrus trees have all been transplanted from abandoned gardens and revived.” From 2000 to 2006 she lived in Oakland where she perfected cement casting. For the past twenty years, MiMi has lived with multiple sclerosis.
